Hemel-en-Aarde Education Project (HEAEP)

The Pebbles Hemel-en-Aarde Education Project (HEAEP) was established in 2017. The project ensures that children and young adults from farming communities in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, near Hermanus, have access to quality education, health, and nutrition services.

Core programmes offered at the HEAEP

  • Pebbles Academy: An independent school that offers education from Grade R to Grade 7 for children across the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.
  • Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre: A day care centre for children aged 3 months to 5 years.
  • Youth Development Centre (YDC): A centre where the Youth Development Programme (YDP) is delivered, and where young adults (aged 15–25) build life skills, take part in hands-on workshops, and gain work-readiness training.

Key services offered at the HEAEP

  • Transport for children from around 40 neighbouring farms.
  • Nutritious breakfast, lunch and snacks for all beneficiaries.
  • Annual health and dental check-ups via the Pebbles Health Clinic.
  • A sustainable vegetable garden integrated into the education curriculum, with extra produce sold to local restaurants for additional income.
  • Extracurricular activities such as music, sports, and life skills.
The project is dedicated to enhancing education and fostering development within farming communities, particularly in the remote Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge region. For more information about the Hemel-en-Aarde Education Project (HEAEP), please click here.
