Health and Wellness Service
Education is at the heart of the Pebbles Project, delivered through Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres and After-School Clubs on farms across the Western Cape. As Pebbles Project worked closely with children through our educational programmes, it became clear that learning cannot take place in isolation, because when a child is unwell, they cannot learn. By caring for their health, Pebbles Project helps unlock each child’s full academic potential.
The Pebbles Health Clinic
In 2014, the Pebbles Health Clinic opened its doors in partnership with Cipla, offering primary health care, wellness, and dental services to Pebbles Project beneficiaries, their families, and local community members.
Located at Villiera Wines in Stellenbosch, the clinic serves the surrounding farming communities. All Pebbles Project beneficiaries can access these services free of charge, while their parents and other community members pay a nominal fee.
Transport is provided, and the clinic operates on an appointment system to minimise waiting times, addressing the challenges faced at local government clinics. In addition, the clinic offers outreach services to beneficiaries in Citrusdal, Paarl, Wellington, and the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley near Hermanus.
The Pebbles Health Clinic offers the following services:
- Wellness screenings.
- Monitoring of height/weight.
- Treatment of sick patients or those with injuries.
- Referrals to hospital or medical specialists.
- Sex education workshops for teenagers and provision of sanitary items.
- Maternal Health workshops and provision of Baby Boxes.
- Immunisations, de-worming, and Vitamin A supplements.
- TB and HIV testing and counselling.
- Oral health checks and dental treatment.

Impact Story
Driscoll's Mobile Health Clinic
The Driscoll’s Mobile Health Clinic provides accessible, preventative, and community-based healthcare services to children, families, and vulnerable individuals living in rural farming communities in and around Clanwilliam.
Many communities face barriers to healthcare access due to long travel distances, limited transport, financial constraints, and a lack of nearby medical services, often resulting in delayed treatment and missed preventative care opportunities.
Through the Mobile Health Clinic, Pebbles Project addresses these challenges by delivering healthcare directly within communities. Focusing on primary healthcare, wellness screenings, health education, and early intervention, the mobile clinic supports healthier children, stronger families, and more resilient communities.

Impilo Yabafazi Women’s Health Mobile Clinic
The Impilo Yabafazi Women’s Health Mobile Clinic launched in April 2026 and provides free preventative healthcare services to women across the Western Cape, including those living in rural farming communities where access to healthcare is often limited.
Through confidential care, the mobile clinic offers services such as Pap smears, HPV screenings, breast screenings, family planning, HIV testing, and general wellness checks, helping ensure the early detection and prevention of serious health conditions, including cervical cancer. Through compassionate care and health education, Impilo Yabafazi empowers women to prioritise their health, improving wellbeing, strengthening families, and helping save lives.

Social Work Service
The Social Work Service supports the social and emotional well-being of children and their families. The dedicated team of social workers works closely with farming communities to offer vital support during difficult times, helping to safeguard the well-being of both children and adults.
The team of social workers respond to a wide range of issues, including neglect, abuse, family conflict, behavioural challenges, and substance abuse. The Social Work Service is based in Stellenbosch and extends outreach support to beneficiaries at the Pebbles Hemel-en-Aarde Education Project (HEAEP) in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley near Hermanus.
Support is offered through one-on-one therapeutic sessions, group therapy focused on personal development and wellness, and direct engagement with parents to ensure a holistic approach. In partnership with the Pebbles Health Clinic, the social workers offer sex education sessions to After-School Club learners. Where serious risks are identified, children are referred to statutory social services.
To build strong families and create lasting social change, regular parent training sessions are held in the Stellenbosch region. These sessions cover important topics like parenting skills, money management, substance abuse, and health and wellness, empowering parents to support their families and communities with confidence.

Special Educational Needs (SEN) Service
Children in farmworker communities often face barriers to learning due to developmental delays, undiagnosed learning difficulties, or limited access to specialised support services. Recognising this, Pebbles Project launched the Special Educational Needs (SEN) Service to ensure that every child has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.
The SEN Service aims to provide comprehensive Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, and Multidisciplinary Support to beneficiaries facing developmental and learning challenges. The service ensures early identification, structured interventions, and collaboration with schools, health services, and families to enhance beneficiary outcomes.
At the heart of the initiative is a Mobile Resource Learning Centre sponsored by Lubanzi Wines, filled with specialised educational materials and tools. This vehicle travels on a rotational basis to the Pebbles Project educational centres, making vital resources accessible to children who require extra academic or developmental support and also provides guidance to Practitioners and caregivers on how to use these resources effectively. The SEN Service is offered in Stellenbosch, Somerset West, Wellington, Citrusdal, Grabouw and the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley near Hermanus at the Pebbles Hemel-en-Aarde Education Project (HEAEP).
