Amanda’s Story

20-year-old Amanda was born and raised on Kaapzicht wine farm in Stellenbosch. She has been visiting the Pebbles Health Clinic since it opened in 2014. Amanda says, “I enjoy coming to the Pebbles Clinic.”

She recalls a time when she was very ill: “I was so sick; I couldn’t even open my eyes. The Pebbles vehicle came to pick me up from my farm, and the nurse gave me medication that made me feel better.”

If the Pebbles Health Clinic didn’t exist, Amanda would have to visit the local clinic in Kraaifontein. This would mean paying for a taxi to collect her from the farm and transport her to the clinic. She explains, “Transport to the clinic in Kraaifontein is very expensive, the queues are very long, and sometimes you wait until it’s dark and still don’t get helped.”

Amanda appreciates that she never has to wait to be assisted at the Pebbles Health Clinic, and that the staff are always friendly. “I really like the nurses at the Pebbles Clinic – they’re always very kind to me,” she says.

Amanda also highlights the positive impact the Pebbles Health Clinic has had on her community: “There are a lot of people on my farm who say great things about the Pebbles Clinic.”
