Jordan’s Story

21-year-old Jordan was born and raised on Villiera Wines, where his father works. From the age of six, he attended the Pebbles Project After-School Club on the farm, where he discovered a love for mathematics through the support of the Pebbles Project Maths Tutor as part of the School Enrichment Programme (SEP).

Jordan’s passion for maths continued to grow, and before long, he was helping younger children on the farm with their schoolwork, sharing both his knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject.

From an early age, Jordan knew he wanted to work in finance. After finishing high school, he enrolled in the Pebbles Project Youth Development Programme (YDP), which supports young people from farming communities with training, life skills and access to further education. With guidance from the YDP Manager and a Pebbles Project social worker, Jordan enrolled in the Financial Management N4 Higher Certificate at Boland College in Stellenbosch.

Jordan excelled in his studies, achieving several distinctions, while also embracing campus life as a member of the college athletics team. He says his time at college helped him grow both academically and personally.

Having successfully completed the theoretical component of his qualification, Jordan is now preparing to begin the practical component of his studies. With continued support from the YDP Manager, he is looking forward to gaining valuable workplace experience before pursuing his long-term goal of studying finance at university.

Reflecting on his journey, Jordan says, “Pebbles helped me discover my love for maths, especially the Pebbles Maths Tutor, who helped me improve my marks to 87%. Pebbles has helped me achieve my dreams.”

Jordan’s journey shows how encouragement, opportunity and the right support can unlock a young person’s potential. From discovering a passion for mathematics at the Pebbles Project After-School Club to pursuing a career in finance, he is building a bright future for himself.
