Kimmy’s Story

When little Kimmy arrived at the Pebbles Project Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre for the very first time, she was terrified. The ECD Practitioner recalls the moment vividly: “Poor Kimmy was so scared; her entire body was shaking. Any time I tried to speak to her, she would burst into tears.”

It was clear that Kimmy was feeling overwhelmed and unsure in her new environment, a common reaction for children adjusting to unfamiliar surroundings. But the Pebbles Project ECD team knew that with gentle encouragement, a nurturing atmosphere, and patience, Kimmy would begin to feel safe and supported.

Slowly, signs of change began to appear. The ECD Practitioner recalls: “At some point, I noticed she was standing a little closer during story time. She wasn’t crying anymore, just quietly watching. And then, eventually, she began to smile.”

As the days turned into weeks, Kimmy’s confidence started to blossom. She began interacting with her classmates, participating in group activities, and even arriving at the centre with excitement in her eyes. The Practitioner shares that: “Kimmy continues to progress beautifully. She is now a happy, curious child who looks forward to coming to the ECD centre every day.”

The Pebbles Project Early Care and Education Programme (ECEP) supports children from conception to the age of five through two sub-programmes: the First Thousand Days (FTD) Programme (0–2.5 years) and the Early Childhood Development (ECD) Programme (2.5–5 years). The ECEP is delivered at ECD centres located on Pebbles’ partner farms.

One of the core goals of the ECEP is to foster each child’s holistic development, laying the foundation for lifelong learning, emotional well-being, and a love of discovery.

Kimmy’s journey is a testament to the power of kindness, consistency, and the importance of creating safe spaces for children to grow and thrive.
